US denies claim it struck Iranian civilian infrastructure

Iran claimed Friday that the U.S. struck a railroad station and civilian airport.

In response, a spokesman for U.S. Central Command said the U.S. does not strike at civilians.

“The US military never targets civilians unlike Iran which has repeatedly attacked innocent mariners transiting the Strait of Hormuz and civilians in neighboring gulf countries,” according to Capt. Tim Hawkins, a CENTCOM spokesman.

In the recent wave of airstrikes CENTCOM has acknowledged U.S. forces have struck at military infrastructure facilities.

The distinction being that the U.S. may see facilities that Iran says are civilian in nature, but that CENTCOM says are being used by the IRGC to target shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.

US completes 7th consecutive night of strikes: CENTCOM

U.S. forces completed a seventh consecutive night of strikes against Iran, U.S. Central Command announced in a social media post.

The strikes concluded at 9:30 p.m. ET after the U.S. hit surveillance sites, military logistics infrastructure, underground weapons storage and maritime capabilities, CENTCOM said in the statement.

“CENTCOM continues to hold Iran accountable at the Commander in Chief’s direction while fully enforcing a naval blockade against Iranian ports,” the CENTCOM statement said. “More than 50,000 American service members are operating across the Middle East and remain vigilant, lethal, and ready.”

Iran live updates: US launches more airstrikes on Iran for 7th night, CENTCOM says

President Donald Trump announced “major combat operations” against Iran on Feb. 28, with massive joint U.S.-Israeli strikes targeting military, government and infrastructure sites.

Delegations from the U.S. and Iran entered negotiations in June aimed at a war-ending deal based on a memorandum of understanding signed by both countries.

The U.S. and Iran have nonetheless continued to exchange relatively limited strikes despite the signing of the memorandum and amid the continuation of peace talks, with the strategic Strait of Hormuz the primary flashpoint.

3,461 people killed in Iran by US-Israeli strikes, HRANA says

At least 3,461 people have been killed in Iran by U.S.-Israeli strikes since the war began on Feb. 28, the U.S.-based Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) reported on Saturday.

The reported toll includes 1,551 civilians and 1,208 military personnel, while the status of 702 victims remains undetermined. According to HRANA, 236 of the victims were children.

ABC News cannot independently verify HRANA’s data. However, HRANA has been reliable in counting deaths during previous rounds of unrest in Iran. HRANA says their data is collected from a combination of field reports, local contacts, medical and emergency sources, civil society networks and open-source materials — including publicly available images, videos and official statements.

Official Iranian government channels have not been providing regular or comprehensive casualty figures from the current conflict. But the Iranian Health Ministry said on Saturday that 244 women and 231 children have been killed in the war so far, in a statement carried by the Islamic Republic News Agency.

Ghalibaf says Iran is ‘waiting’ for arrival of US troops

The speaker of the Iranian parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, said in a statement on Sunday that Iranian forces are preparing for a U.S. ground operation despite ongoing diplomatic maneuvers.

“The enemy openly sends messages of negotiation and dialogue and secretly plans a ground attack,” Ghalibaf said in a message addressed to the Iranian people on the 30th day of the war, the semi-official ILNA news agency reported Sunday.

Ghalibaf said that Tehran will continue its regional attacks, adding that the Iranian military is “waiting for the arrival of American soldiers on the ground to set fire to them and punish their regional partners forever.”

“These days, we hear different words and statements from enemy officials about negotiations. America expresses its desires and announces what it has not achieved in the war as a list of 15 points and seeks them in diplomacy,” Ghalibaf said.

“As long as the Americans seek Iran’s surrender, your children’s response to these American aspirations is clear: ‘We will not accept humiliation,'” he added.

Iran has not reached an agreement to resume negotiations with the US, Iranian FM says

Iran has not reached an agreement to return to negotiations with the U.S. on its nuclear program and no date for a potential meeting to re-start the negotiations has been set, the Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Iranian state TV Thursday.

Araghchi said speculation about negotiations resuming should not be taken seriously.

“I would like to state clearly that no agreement, appointment or conversation has been made to start new negotiations,” Araghchi said.

Araghchi also said the negotiations between the U.S. and Iran will only be more difficult after the U.S. and Israel’s military actions.

“The next negotiations won’t be any easier for the Americans compared to the previous ones,” Araghchi said. “Human beings have been killed for it. It’s not possible to make an agreement on it as easy as before.”

4 US Army soldiers go missing in Lithuania during training exercise, vehicle recovered

Search and recovery efforts are ongoing for four U.S. Army soldiers who went missing during a scheduled training exercise near Pabradė, Lithuania, according to the Army.

The soldiers, who are all based in Fort Stewart, Georgia, went missing early Tuesday during a “maintenance mission” to recover another a vehicle in the training area, the Army said.

The M88 Hercules armored recovery vehicle the four soldiers were operating at the time was found on Wednesday submerged in water in a training area, the Army said.

“A very complicated search and rescue operation is underway,” Lithuanian Defense Minister Dovile Sakaliene said at a news conference Wednesday. “It will definitely take some time.”

U.S. soldiers gather near military and other vehicles parked at a training range in Pabrade, north of the capital Vilnius, Lithuania, March 27, 2025.

Hundreds of U.S. and Lithuanian soldiers and law enforcement came together to search the “thick forests and swampy terrain,” the Army said in a statement Thursday.

But the conditions “complicated recovery efforts and have required specialized equipment to drain water from the side and stabilize the ground,” the Army said.

Engineers are building barriers out of dirt and sand “to create a contained area from which water can be pumped and mud dredged, providing emergency personnel on site access to the vehicle,” the Army said.

“It is very important for us to find those soldiers as soon as possible, because you all know how important is the presence of U.S. troops in Lithuania,” Lithuania’s chief of defense, Raimundas Vaiksnoras, said Wednesday. “Their soldiers are like our Lithuanian soldiers to us. So we spare no effort.”

“We will not rest till they are found,” Sakaliene said on social media Thursday.

The Army said it’s keeping the soldiers’ families updated on the search efforts.

Trump, Hegseth slam news coverage of US intel report on Iran attack, say B-2 pilots upset

President Donald Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth on Wednesday both tried to counter a preliminary U.S. intelligence assessment that the attack on three Iranian nuclear facilities did limited damage by claiming news accounts of the report demeaned the B-2 pilots who dropped the bombs.

Speaking at a news conference as he was set to leave the NATO summit in the Netherlands, Trump claimed the pilots are “devastated” by the suggestion the strikes were not a complete success.

He was asked several times Wednesday about the Defense Intelligence Agency’s initial assessment that the bombings of the Natanz, Isfahan and Fordo facilities likely set back Iran’s nuclear program by only a few months. He acknowledged the receipt of the report but noted it was incomplete.

He snapped back at reporters raising questions about it, repeating his claim Iran’s nuclear program was “obliterated,” and shifted the focus to the pilots who carried out the strike.

President Donald Trump, alongside secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth and Secretary of State Marco Rubio speaks during a news conference at the NATO summit in The Hague, Netherlands, June 25, 2025.
“You should be praising those people instead of trying to find out by getting me by trying to go and get me. You’re hurting those people,” Trump told reporters.

Later Wednesday, in a Truth Social post, he said Hegseth would hold a news conference Thursday morning “in order to fight for the Dignity of our Great American Pilots.”

“They felt terribly! Fortunately for them and, as usual, solely for the purpose of demeaning PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP,” he said in part. “The News Conference will prove both interesting and irrefutable.”

The president claimed in his Netherlands news conference that he had received a call from Missouri, where the pilots are based, about the intelligence report and the news accounts about it, saying he had been told they were “devastated, because they were trying to minimize the attack.”

“I spoke to one of them. He said, ‘Sir, we hit the site. It was perfect. It was dead on,’ because they don’t understand fake news,” Trump said.

The Pentagon referred questions from ABC News to the White House.

Trump added about the pilots that “they were devastated. They put their lives on the line.”

Since Saturday’s attack, Trump and his officials have repeatedly praised the B-2 pilots for the mission but stepped up referencing them as part of the pushback on Wednesday. Hegseth, standing next to Trump, came to the microphone to argue news reporters and outlets “don’t care what the troops think.”

“These pilots, these refuelers, these fighters, these air defenders, the skill and the courage it took to go into enemy territory flying 36 hours on behalf of the American people in the world to take out a nuclear program is beyond what anyone in this audience can fathom,” Hegseth said.

At the same time, Hegseth and Trump downplayed the report’s initial findings about the damage.

“The report said what it said and it was fine. It was severe, they think, but they had no idea. They shouldn’t have issued a report until they did, but we’ve got the information,” Trump said.

Trump earlier cited an Israeli intelligence report that he insisted assessed the “strike on Fordo destroyed the site’s critical infrastructure and rendered the enrichment facility totally inoperable.”

Military officials have said there is no doubt the sites sustained significant damage, but that a “battle damage assessment” would take time to complete, as no Western officials have been able to personally inspect the sites as of Wednesday.

Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard said in a statement posted on X late Wednesday that “Iran’s nuclear facilities have been destroyed,” and also slamming the news media. A source with knowledge of Gabbard’s assessment told ABC News her description came from new U.S. intelligence.

“The propaganda media has deployed their usual tactic: selectively release portions of illegally leaked classified intelligence assessments (intentionally leaving out the fact that the assessment was written with “low confidence”) to try to undermine President Trump’s decisive leadership and the brave servicemen and women who flawlessly executed a truly historic mission to keep the American people safe and secure,” she posted in part.

Hegseth contended that the preliminary reports and images spoke for themselves.

“So, if you want to make an assessment of what happened at Fordo, you better get a big shovel and go really deep because Iran’s nuclear program is obliterated and somebody somewhere is trying to leak something to say, ‘Oh, with low confidence we think maybe it’s moderate,” he claimed.
