The Charge d’Affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Denmark was summoned for questioning over suspected secret activities by Americans in Greenland.

The Danish Broadcasting Corporation previously reported that at least three Americans with close ties to US President Trump and senior White House officials have recently traveled back and forth between the United States and Greenland many times, trying to push Greenland to distance itself from Denmark and strengthen its dependence on the United States by establishing private networks, infiltrating local society, and strengthening information collection.

Danish Foreign Minister Rasmussen said on the 27th that any attempt to interfere in Denmark’s internal affairs is “unacceptable” and he has instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to summon the acting ambassador of the US Embassy in Denmark to ask the US to explain its secret activities in Greenland.

reporter Rasmussen said the Danish government is “fully aware” of foreign powers’ interest in Denmark’s relationship with Greenland, and therefore is not surprised by the aforementioned actions. He also stressed that any attempt to interfere in Denmark’s internal affairs is “unacceptable.”

On the same day, the U.S. Embassy in Denmark responded that the U.S. government “respects the right of the people of Greenland to independently determine their future” and that the actions of individual U.S. citizens “are not under the control of the U.S. government.”

Greenland, located northeast of North America, is the world’s largest island. It is a Danish autonomous territory with a high degree of autonomy, with defense and foreign affairs under the jurisdiction of the Danish government.

Since taking office this year, Trump has repeatedly threatened to acquire Greenland. In March, during a White House meeting with visiting NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte, Trump reiterated his intention to acquire Greenland and pledged to deploy more US troops there. Trump stated that the US needs to control Greenland to enhance international security. Greenland, with its rich mineral resources and strategic location on a vital shipping route to the Arctic, holds a crucial strategic position.

‘Traditionally, it was a Democrat issue’: How RFK Jr. is getting left-leaning food laws into deep-red states

Earlier this month, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. notched one of his biggest wins of the “Make America Healthy Again” movement when West Virginia became the first state in the country to ban artificial food dyes in school lunches.

Since then, a handful of other Republican governors have raced to join in, banning certain food colorings from kids’ lunches — sometimes prohibiting other chemical additives, too. Some GOP leaders have gone further, slapping warning labels on certain food additives statewide.

Historically the focus of Democrats, including former first lady Michelle Obama — and derided as “nanny state” politics by anti-regulation conservatives — food laws have lately had a windfall of support from the other side of the aisle.

Kennedy’s “Make America Health Again” crusade against food additives, with its strong backing from President Donald Trump, has taken hold in deeply Republican states such as Louisiana, Texas and Oklahoma.

“Traditionally, it was a Democratic issue,” Kennedy told ABC News at a press conference on Monday, adding that he is hopeful that Democrats will continue pass food laws in their states despite the “partisan brand” the movement brings.

West Virginia — which has the second-lowest life expectancy rate in the nation, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention — has taken one of the most stringent approaches, intending to further its ban on artificial dyes and other additives to the whole state by 2028.

Its law closely mirrors those passed by California Democrat Gov. Gavin Newsom, who signed similar bills into law before Kennedy and Trump took office. The California Food Safety Act passed in 2023, which banned four additives statewide, and a second California law passed in 2024, which banned six specific synthetic food dyes from school lunches. Both take effect in 2027.

“Sometimes you find that there are unorthodox partners, but the key is what you’re able to accomplish,” West Virginia Gov. Patrick Morrissey, a Republican, told ABC News. If the changes improve health outcomes for West Virginians, it’ll be “a win,” he said.

West Virginia is one of 10 Republican states that have taken steps to regulate food since Kennedy took office. Just two Democratic governors, Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs and Delaware Gov. Matt Meyer, have signed similar laws in that same timeframe.

At the same time, 11 Republican states have applied to the federal government for waivers to prohibit soda or candy from the food benefits program for low-income Americans, SNAP. The sole Democrat-led state to join in on the SNAP policy change is Colorado.

More states are waiting in the wings, said John Hewitt, senior vice president of state affairs for the Consumer Brands Association, which represents major food companies such as Kraft Heinz.

There’s been at least a tenfold increase in the number of food bills introduced or discussed at the state level, he said, and there’s been a “substantial shift” in which states are interested.

‘Copy and pasting’ Democrats’ food laws into red states

Thomas Galligan, principal scientist for food additives and supplements at the Center for Science in the Public Interest, has worked with states such as California and New York on systemic food reform.

And although CSPI has frequently clashed with Kennedy on his policies at HHS, particularly around vaccines, Galligan said on food, “it’s fair to give credit where it’s due.”

“I mean, the Trump administration, under RFK Jr., has really elevated this issue on the national stage,” he said.

But Galligan pushed back on the characterization that it’s part of Kennedy’s “Make America Health Again” movement, pointing to California’s laws, before Kennedy’s tenure, as the blueprint.

“Most of the bills that we’re seeing are really copy and pasting,” Galligan said.

Why are food laws different for Republicans this time?

For conservatives such as Jeff Singer, a senior fellow at the Cato Institute who studies health policy, the new Republican-led laws around food are a far cry from the days of protesting Obama’s “Lets Move!” campaign and former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s attempt to ban Big Gulp soda.

“I clearly remember all of the criticism, particularly on right-wing media, of Mayor Bloomberg,” Singer said. “All the attacks on Michelle Obama for trying to dictate how people should eat, and dictate what should be in school lunches.”

“They were basically saying, ‘keep your nose out of our private affairs, this is not a role for government, we don’t need a nanny state.’ But all of a sudden, they’re all for a nanny state because it was a very good political move to bring RFK into the MAGA movement,” Singer said.

The lack of conservative pushback this time around has left the food industry, a powerful lobbying force, as the primary barrier to passing legislation, said Meghan Enslow, policy associate for the Center for Science in the Public Interest.

“In all of these states, blue and red, there’s been immense lobbying and money spent by the food industry against these bills. And I do wonder if that MAHA narrative is part of what’s allowed red states to ignore that money and the voice of the food industry and pass these bills,” Enslow said.

Kennedy said that a few Democratic governors have told him privately that they intend to get on board.

“They don’t want to call it MAHA because they think that that’s become kind of a partisan brand. I don’t care what they call it,” Kennedy said. “They want to protect their children. And there’s no such thing as Democratic children or Republican children. They’re our children, and we should all care about them.”

9-year-old girl found dead after her father falsely claimed she was kidnapped in upstate New York: Police

A 9-year-old Canadian girl whose father had reported she had been kidnapped in upstate New York was found dead Sunday afternoon, with investigators saying she had not been abducted and they were now questioning inconsistencies in her dad’s story, according to authorities.

The body of the girl, identified by the Warren County Sheriff’s Office as Melina Galanis Frattolin, was discovered in Ticonderoga, New York, near the New York-Vermont border, about 15 miles from Lake George, where her father initially claimed she had been kidnapped on Saturday by a man driving a white van.

The report from the father led the New York State Police to issue an Amber Alert earlier on Sunday. A massive search was launched, involving State Police K-9 and aviation units, New York State Park Rangers, the Essex and Warren County sheriff’s offices, the New York State Department of Conservation, and the Ticonderoga Police Department.

“As the case progressed, law enforcement identified inconsistencies in the father’s account of events and the timeline he provided,” according to a statement from the State Police.

The investigation was ongoing Sunday afternoon as State Police took over the investigation from the Warren County Sheriff’s Office.

There was no immediate comment from the State Police on whether Melina’s father, who police identified as 45-year-old Luciano Frattolin, also of Canada, had been arrested in his daughter’s death.

State police did not disclose how Melina died.

“At this time, there is no indication that an abduction occurred, and there is no threat to the public,” the State Police said in its statement.

Luciano Frattolin called 911 in Warren County late Saturday night, claiming his daughter had been abducted by a stranger, according to police. The father claimed the girl was kidnapped around 9:40 p.m. at a rest stop off Interstate 87 near Lake George, where he allegedly claimed they pulled over to use the restroom, according to police radio dispatches provided by Broadcastify.

The father told police his daughter was wearing light colored shorts, a blue-and-white striped shirt and white Adidas sneakers, police said.

“The child was taken under circumstances that lead police to believe that they are in imminent danger of serious bodily harm and/or death,” authorities said in an initial statement that accompanied the Amber Alert.

Olympic fencer Ysaora Thibus cleared of doping as authorities accept she was contaminated by kissing partner

Lausanne, Switzerland — French Olympic fencer Ysaora Thibus was cleared of a doping allegation Monday because the judges accepted she was contaminated by kissing her American partner over a period of nine days.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport ruling echoed a verdict clearing another French athlete with a similar defense in a doping allegation — tennis player Richard Gasquet in the celebrated “cocaine kiss” case in 2009.

CAS said in the Thibus case its judging panel dismissed an appeal by the World Anti-Doping Agency, which asked for her to be banned for four years.

Thibus tested positive for the anabolic substance ostarine in January 2024. She was later cleared by an International Fencing Federation tribunal weeks before the Paris Olympics, which let her compete there.

WADA challenged the explanation that Thibus was contaminated “through kissing with her then partner, who had been using a product containing ostarine without her knowledge,” CAS said.

The court said Monday “it is scientifically established that the intake of an ostarine dose similar to the dose ingested by Ms Thibus’ then partner would have left sufficient amounts of ostarine in the saliva to contaminate a person through kissing.”

The CAS judges “accepted that Ms. Thibus’ then-partner was taking ostarine from Jan. 5, 2024, and that there was contamination over nine days with a cumulative effect.”

Her partner at the time was Race Imboden, a two-time Olympic fencing bronze medalist for the United States.

Thibus, a silver medalist for France in women’s team foil at the Tokyo Olympics, placed fifth at that event in Paris and 28th in the women’s individual foil.

‘We didn’t know this flood was coming,’ official says

Kerr County Judge Rob Kelly was pressed by a reporter as to why evacuations didn’t take place Thursday, but the judge said, “We didn’t know this flood was coming.” Officials said the county does not have a warning system on the river.

“We have floods all the time. This is the most dangerous river valley in the United States, and we deal with floods on a regular basis. When it rains, we get water. We had no reason to believe that this was going to be anything like what’s happened here, none whatsoever,” he said.

Rain continued to hit the region Saturday, prompting flash flood emergency warnings for much of Burnet County and western parts of Williamson County and Travis County.
