Iran says that Hormuz is a ‘red line,’ it will not allow US to interfere

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps issued a warning Thursday, saying it will not “allow” the U.S. to destabilize the region.

“We once again stress that under no circumstances and in no way will we allow the United States, as a foreign and extra-regional country, to interfere in the Strait of Hormuz. This is Iran’s inviolable red line,” IRGC spokesperson Ebrahim Zolfqari said Thursday.

The IRGC warned that if the U.S. carries out its threat to target Iranian infrastructure, Iran would respond with “strikes that will be more severe, more extensive and more devastating than ever before.”

IRGC General says US destroyed MoU agreement, that Iran will enter offensive phase if America continues the war

Former IRGC commander Maj. Gen. Mohsen Rezaei said in an interview with Iranian state media on Friday that if the U.S. continues its military actions against Iran, Tehran will move to an offensive position rather than a retaliatory one.

“If America continues the war in the coming days, Iran will move from the phase of retaliation to the offensive phase, and we declare that the conditions for both negotiations and war are over,” the general said.

The IRGC general further stated Washington had violated all five preliminary clauses of the MoU, and that the “prediction that Donald Trump would tear up the memorandum of understanding came true.”

Fars News Agency also reports the general saying if America continues the war in the next two to three days, Iran will enter the stage of “full-scale assault and annihilation.”

White House says Americans in Africa exposed to Ebola will be sent to Kenya facility as Rubio says no cases will be allowed into US

The White House confirmed Wednesday that the U.S. is setting up a health facility in Kenya to receive Americans who are exposed to the Ebola virus in regions affected by the outgoing outbreak.

According to an administration official, the U.S. will establish what they called a “state-of-the-art facility” in Kenya “through a coordinated effort with the Departments of State, Health and Human Services, and War.”

The news was first reported by The Wall Street Journal.

Meanwhile, Secretary of State Marco Rubio said during a Cabinet meeting on Wednesday that the administration “will not allow any cases of Ebola to enter the United States.”

The official said that the purpose and design of the facility would be to “provide access to high-quality care for Americans who would need to quickly get out” of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to quarantine, and argued that it would cut down on the “risks of a lengthy transport back to the U.S.”

“Time is of the essence for Ebola patients, and this facility will enable Americans in the region who contract Ebola to receive lifesaving care as quickly as possible without 12-plus hours of medevac flight time,” the official said.

The official added that the treatment capabilities at the Kenya facility are “expected to be able to care for the full-spectrum of Ebola Virus Disease, including critical care needs,” but added that patients would be evaluated on a case-by-case basis for possible “forward transport” for more advanced care as needed.

The White House did not immediately respond to an ABC News request for additional specifics regarding patients who would be quarantined and treated at the facility.

While delivering remarks during Wednesday’s Cabinet meeting, Rubio did not comment on the plan to set up a facility in Kenya but emphasized the administration is working to ensure the outbreak is “being contained.”

“The State Department and other agencies represented here, the Centers for Disease Control, HHS, others are working very, very hard to contain this crisis to the countries where it’s currently located, particularly the Democratic Republic of the Congo,” he said. “And so, we’ve searched assistance to make sure that that that is being contained there.”

Rubio also stressed what he said was the administration’s commitment to containing Ebola, saying that “the number-one priority of our foreign policy is to protect the American people.”

“We cannot and will not allow any cases of Ebola to enter the United States,” Rubio said, adding that “multiple agencies” were involved in “tracking people just to make sure that nobody comes into this country that has Ebola and creates a problem for us, and we feel like we’ve got good efforts in place to do that.”

The administration previously invoked its authority under Title 42, barring travel to the U.S. for non-citizens, with specific exceptions, who have visited the DRC, Uganda, or South Sudan within the last 21 days. The order was expanded last week to include U.S. green card holders.

American citizens who have visited those countries are being directed to specific U.S. airports for additional health screening, including Dulles International Airport, John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, and George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston.

The news comes as New York-based International Rescue Committee (IRC) aid organization warned on Tuesday that the ongoing Ebola outbreak in the DRC and neighboring Uganda is now spreading faster than responders can contain it and risks becoming “the deadliest on record” without urgent international action.

“The outbreak is spreading faster than the response, with over 900 suspected cases and at least 223 deaths already reported across DRC and Uganda, including in major transport hubs like Goma and Kampala,” the IRC wrote.

Houthis launch 2 attacks against Israel, say they will continue

Yemen’s Houthis carried out a second missile attack against Israel on Saturday following an earlier strike in the morning, the group said in a statement.

The group said the attack “coincided with the military operations being carried out” by Hezbollah and Iran. The statement said the group would continue to carry out military operations “until the criminal enemy ceases its attacks and aggression.”

Iran will not change its position on nuclear program, foreign ministry says

Iran will not change its position regarding its nuclear program despite the military action taken by the U.S. and Israel, Esmaeil Baghaei, a foreign ministry spokesperson, told Iranian state media on Thursday.

“We have shown that pressure, intimidation, threats, and even the use of naked force against a sovereign state, in violation of all international standards and norms, cannot undermine our rights. Our rights remain intact,” Baghaei told IRNA in a lengthy interview published Thursday.

Baghaei also addressed accusations that Iran was looking to prolong the negotiations with the U.S. that had been scheduled to take place in Oman before Israel attacked.

“All of these cases show that the American side was not serious about the negotiations from the beginning. But this does not diminish the value of the actions of the Islamic Republic of Iran. In my opinion, Iran’s entry into these negotiations truly exposed the hypocrisy and lies of the other side,” Baghaei said.

“History will record that in the midst of a diplomatic process between Iran and a party that considers itself a global power, Iran’s logic prevailed, and they failed to meet this logic. For this reason, they encouraged and supported their proxy in the region to attack Iran,” Baghaei added.

On the calls to resume negotiations with the U.S. over Iran’s nuclear program, Baghaei said, “First, we never trusted the other side. Because sometimes some words are used, such as ‘the recent incident caused trust between Iran and America to decrease’ or ‘to disappear,’ while we basically never trusted [them]. One of the reasons for this is the events that we are witnessing now. We were talking to the other side in an atmosphere of absolute distrust. The reason for this distrust is their history of breaking promises.”

Iran still evaluating if and how they will continue work with IAEA, remain in NPT, Iranian FM says

Iran is still evaluating if and how they will work with the International Atomic Energy Agency in light of a new bill passed in Iran’s Parliament Thursday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Iranian state TV Thursday.

Whether or not Iran will stay in the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons Treaty, also known as the NPT, needs to be investigated, Araghchi said. Iran will “act accordingly with the interest of the country,” he added.

One of the reasons Iran cannot maintain the same relationship with the IAEA as it had before the 12-day war is because the IAEA did not condemn Israel and the US’s attacks on Iran’s nuclear facilities, he said.

“The IAEA Director-General should have done this,” referring to condemning Israel and the U.S.’s attacks on Iran’s’ nuclear facilities, Araghchi said. “Attacking nuclear facilities is an unforgivable crime from international law.”

Araghchi said the law passed by Iran’s Parliament will be further investigated by the Iranian government and said the new law hasn’t completely blocked a path for cooperation with the IAEA.

“We need to perform more legal work on this law and decide how we can set our relations with the IAEA,” Araghchi said.

The IAEA inspections have stopped inside Iran, Araghchi said.
